FASD Training Offerings

We have many different training options available, in synchronous and asynchronous forms. We also offer customized training options, so feel free to submit a request if what you are looking for is not explicitly outlined here!

Asynchronous Training Courses 

We have online (asynchronous), self-paced courses available, which are hosted on Thinkific. These courses are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. If you are not able to pay, you can still take them! Once finished, you will be provided with a completion certificate for your time. We are currently developing more courses in this same format, so check back soon!

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) & Disability 

​FASD101- Introduction to Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
This training was developed using research and resources specific to supporting individuals with intellectual or neurodevelopmental disabilities experiencing IPV, for service providers working with this population.

 This course was developed through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Laura Pacheco (School of Social Work, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador).
​Learn more about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)! In this course we cover the basics of FASD, alcohol and pregnancy, prevention, diagnosis, challenges, stigma, strengths, strategies for success, and the landscape of FASD in Atlantic Canada.

Supporting You, Supporting Them
Working with Parents with Intellectual & Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
This training is for parents and caregivers with neurodevelopmental and/or intellectual disabilities and work with service providers. The training contains skills, strategies, and resources to enhance existing parenting skills, abilities, and understandings, and strategies for how to strengthen working relationships with service providers.

 This course was developed through the collaborative efforts of Dr. Laura Pacheco (School of Social Work, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador) and Daybreak Child & Family Centre. ​
This course is designed for professionals working with parents with disabilities to improve parenting-related services. Learn about the basics, context, principles of support, skill-building, and responsibilities of service providers.

​FASD101 & The Justice System
TSAF 101 et le Système de Justice Pénale
Do you work in the justice system? This course is for you! With "FASD 101 & The Justice System", learn about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) in the context of the justice system. We cover the basics of FASD, FASD within the justice system, and strategies used, plus supplementary resources.
Renseignez-vous sur le TSAF dans le contexte du système judiciaire. Nous couvrons les bases de la FASD, de la FASD au sein du système judiciaire et des stratégies utilisées, ainsi que des ressources supplémentaire.

FASD Prevention & Conversations About Alcohol
​Learn about FASD prevention and conversations about alcohol with our new mini course! You will learn about FASD, alcohol consumption, pregnancy, how alcohol use is intertwined with experiences of trauma and how to talk to someone about their alcohol use.

Money Spending & Financial Planning
In this course, we introduce some of the core concepts of money, spending, budgeting, and saving along with additional resources with further information. This course is designed to be a beginner course for individuals who are neurodiverse.

FASD 101- An Introductory Training (Accredited Version for Social Workers)

This 2-credit reading-based course was developed for social workers. In this course, we cover the basics of FASD, alcohol use and pregnancy, prevention, diagnosis, challenges, stigma, strengths, strategies for success and the landscape of FASD.

FASD 101: An Introductory Training (Accredited Version for Social Workers) is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to be offered by fasdNL as an individual course. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE course approval period: 08/30/2024-08/30-2026. Social workers completing this course receive 2 general continuing education credits.

Learning Objectives
After completing the course, participants should be able to:
1- Define FASD, explain how it occurs, and how it affects the brain and body

3- Develop strategies for how to work with individuals with FASD 
4- Describe the supports and services that are available for people with FASD
